The imagery and components in my workare personal constructs and a natural combination of perspective and aesthetic approach, rather than an assimilation of random images and ideas. By combining recognizable images and icons I deconstruct and rearrange them to create a visual language.
Elements collide arbitrarily on the picture plane. These elements allude to the overall narrative of each piece and act like the buffers in the pinball game or the text indicator guides of a video game. Adding to the narrative, text in my work is analogous to the “ticker” text that scrolls at the bottom of the TV screen on CNN programs. By appropriating elements from both ‘high’ and ‘low’ culture, my work becomes a hybrid of multiple influences, different perspectives, in an attempt to eliminate a cultural division.
